Doctor Who series 5 (Spoilers)

The new series of Doctor Who, with Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, has wrapped up... and wasn't it a magnificent series?
Sure, there were some episodes that I have little desire to watch again. But, by the same token, there are some that I could watch (and have watched) again and again. There was something almost magical about the storylines this series - I laughed and cried and was terrified (eek - Weeping Angels!) and fell in love with all the characters.
This series provided good emotional fodder for fanfiction writing, and I think I produced a few little drabbles that I am very proud of (The Stuff of Nightmares, The Problem With Amy, The Promise of Insanity, and A Siren's Song) and it made me think. Steven Moffat clearly knows how to draw out emotional tension and string together ideas throughout an entire season without letting too much become obvious all at once.
And the cast! The cast were brilliant!
Matt Smith's Doctor is probably my favourite of the new series. I did love David Tennant's Doctor, but in the last half of his tenure the writing for the Doctor changed and he became a character that I didn't like as much as I used to. Matt's portrayal was frenetic and over the top and completely charming - and he attempted to make bow ties and fez's cool! He had the right amount of seriousness when called for, and some of the lines that he delivered were fantastic.
Karen Gillan as Amelia "Amy" Pond is my new hero. Amy is bold and unashamed and adventurous. She doesn't back down from a challenge - whether it's aliens, cracks in the wall or a madman with a box - and she's smart. It's not often you get smart female roles, even today, that you can be proud of. I love Amy to bits, I think she's a great Companion for the Doctor because she never lets him get away with anything. And her relationship with Rory Williams and the Doctor is priceless and I'm ever so happy that a) Rory is not dead, b) they got married and c) there's a married couple travelling with the Doctor.
And Alex Kingston as River Song... River needs her own tv series. Or a regular appearance on Torchwood (River and Jack in the same scene is my dream!). I've loved the development of River's character - which is less understanding development, and more of an addition to the multiple layers of the character. A few friends and I have been debating who she is - some think mother, some think wife. We've also got Time Lord (or Lady, whatever) on the list. I think she's probably his wife or the Time Lady Romana. But I'll be happy whatever the outcome, I think.
And I loved River's costumes so much that I just had to find a pair of red platform stiletto heels... just like she wears!

There are extremely high and I love them so very much!
There is cause for a costume party, I think.
